Food Shelf Information
Welcome to Lucy’s House where we believe every pet deserves to be loved and have a home. We know what our pets give us with their love and loyalty is priceless and adds to our lives. Keeping them in our families and maintaining the bond developed between animal and human is vital to a pet’s emotional and physical well-being, so we strive to keep them with their families. We are a nonprofit charitable organization helping low income, the elderly, and people with disabilities feed and care for their pets through donations of pet food and services. Through our work we are able to prevent animals from being surrendered or abandoned and reduce homelessness.
What we do:
Lucy's House encourages spaying and neutering of pets in order to receive pet food and supports the position that spaying and neutering reduces the number of animals abandoned or homeless due to over- reproduction. Lucy's House does not provide pet food to people who breed animals.
What we do:
- Lucy’s House requests that data be kept at food shelves working with this organization. This helps us to show accountability to our grant funders about the work we do. Data kept needs to include the number of families served, seniors and veterans if that data is kept by each food shelf, number of dogs and cats’ clients have, and whether or not animals are spayed or neutered. This information is crucial to keep for outcomes on the work Lucy’s House does in order to obtain grant funding. Data must be reported a minimum of four times a year, with one falling during the holiday season in November or December to account for the surge in numbers during this time of clients needing both human and pet food. Other reporting times are February, May, and August.
- Lucy's House provides forms to food shelves to keep this data. Data can be scanned and sent through email, mailed, or picked up when pet food is dropped off.
- Due to Lucy’s House being all volunteer, it is important that each food shelf contact Lucy’s House by phone or by email when they pet food. Please give us at two weeks’ notice before you need the pet food as Lucy’s House does not have control over the amount of donations or if pet food recalls impact food that must be pulled and cannot be donated.
- Food shelves with clients who require specific types of pet food due to medical reasons or grain free foods can have their client fill out a specific pet food request form so Lucy’s House can keep tract of special requests and support optimal health for pets requiring specific foods. If a specific pet food is requested and Lucy’s House is aware of it specific bags can be marked for to an individual if the client or individual has signed a form requesting the specific food and allowing us to communicate this with the food shelf. When special requests are made via a food shelf, Lucy’s House makes every effort to fill these based on supplies on hand at the time of the request, but specific pet food requests cannot be guaranteed. Clients are expected to pick up the food during the time the food shelves operate and not made special requests for deliveries or special pick-ups. Special requests should be made during food shelf hours whenever possible. Lucy’s House will bring the special request pet food with other pet food during scheduled monthly deliveries of pet food to that food shelf.
- Lucy's House receives donations of Vet specific diet foods for dogs and cats for medical illnesses that include thyroid, diabetes, weight management, renal, urinary tract, or gastrointestinal food. These can be arranged to be dropped off if this needed by a client but the specific pet food request should be filled out.
- Donations of pet toys and misc. pet supplies when available are provided to food shelves who would like these items.
- VSNIP forms are available at food shelves when requested to support reducing homelessness in animals and encourage spaying and neutering animals.
